Original oil painting - Lookout: Cromwell
'Lookout: Cromwell'
Original oil painting
This oil painting captures the fading light of the day over Cromwell, New Zealand. Viewed from the Bruce Jackson Lookout on the Cromwell-Clyde Road - the ideal spot to observe the merging of the Kawarau River with Lake Dunstan and the sparkling evening lights of Cromwell across the water.
'Bokeh' is a style of painting borrowed from photography - initially capturing light through a deliberately blurred camera lens. As the focus is removed, what starts as pin-points of light grows in size, which lends the style to representing a metaphor: as you soften your focus, the light in your life expands.
Painted by New Zealand bokeh artist Mel McKenzie (The Penny Drops) in 2024.
